I was raised in Sussex, a rural county in the south of the UK. I spent my working life in the fire and rescue service, after 9/11 developing an urban search and rescue capability for the UK. As part of this work, I began to travel and when I began my own business, travel became part of life. I worked for the United Nations, NATO and the European Union consulting on disaster management and preparedness, eventually concentrating on training and exercises for the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. With the advent of BREXIT and then the COVID pandemic, I decided to stop working and concentrate on developing my photographic and creative interests.
I've always used a camera, initially to record my time in the hills and mountains of the UK as I climbed and walked there. At times, I have tried to develop my skills and eye for a picture, but there has always been restrictions due to work commitments. Now, having stopped working, I moved house to beautiful North Devon, free to concentrate on my photography. I have attended photography workshops, with Alister Benn, Simon Baxter and with Open Studio Workshop in Wester Ross, Scotland. The goal was to improve my image taking, post-processing and printing skills. I am also going to try to develop a capability to make frames and mounts for my images. Post-processing with Lightroom, Photoshop and other tools I find a fascinating part of the process of making an image. Alister helped me develop a programme of improvements in my gear, the technical aspects of my photography and, most importantly, how I think about images, what they mean to us and how they can affect us and why.
At present, this website is a means of displaying images that I have made. I will try to develop the site so that I can get critique and feedback on the images and maybe write about the places I go and the pictures I take. So ..... please come back once in a while to see how this site develops.
